my perspective, as someone on the fringe, i guess more on the out. is that it seems to be a good ol' boys club. what used to be more open and universal, is now more like "if i don't know you or your band doesn't sound like my band or my friends band, then i don't like you."
i know it's fun for the shit talking and all...but when you get booked some place and then unbooked...it gets to be a little tiresome
i agree w/ tony, although i think it's been like that for the past 5-or-so years. i may risk sounding like a local dinosaur, but i think '95ish through early '00 was the best time for the local music scene. there was a larger variety of bands and a lot of those bands fans actually liked some of the other bands that had a different style. not as much elitism back then. find a copy of the first 'Live From Bowling Green' cd and you'll know what i'm talking about.
